Pamplona FRESH

Pamplona FRESH Workshop 2026

On 18 and 19 June 2026, Public University Of Navarre (Spain) will host a FRESH workshop on:

“Energy, Sustainability and Economic History”

Workshop Overview

The purpose of this meeting is to create the opportunity for graduate students and early-stage researchers to present and discuss their work in the interconnections between Energy, Sustainability and Economic History. Economic historians have traditionally concentrated on the environment as a determinant of economic growth, examining how factors such as geography or climate influence varying levels of economic development. However, much less attention has been paid to the inverse relationship, specifically, how economic activities have modified the environment. The present challenges of our society require answers from Economic History and this workshop is a perfect opportunity to discuss these topics. The keynote speakers for this meeting will be Henry Willebald (Universidad de la República, Uruguay) and Mar Rubio-Varas (UPNA).

Logistics

The organizers will accommodate around 12 speakers. Accepted papers will receive 45 minutes each (approx. 30 minutes for presentation and 15 minutes for discussion).

Accommodation and Meals: Lunch and dinner will be provided by the local hosts, but invited speakers should cover travel and hotel accommodation themselves. Participants are expected to attend the whole workshop.

Paper Submission

Researchers interested in presenting should send an abstract of max. 500 words and/or a full paper, as well as a brief (1-2 page) CV. Email to: cristianarturo.ducoing@unavarra.es (Please send as one single PDF file).

Early career scholars and researchers from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in academia are especially encouraged to apply.
